STIMULATING BEES’ PRODUCTIVITY: DESEASES PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Innovation Type - method

Potential beneficiaries - bee-farms, farm service centers and farm stores

SUMMARY / SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS

Penicillin is a widely known and used remedy for preventing and control of American foul brood (AFB). The disadvantage of this traditional medicine consists in its repeated application that leads to high accumulation and residue rate in honey and other beekeeping products that could lead to bacterial or allergy upsets with its consumers.
The present invention ensures a simpler approach to preventing and controlling AFB. It consists of administering the bees a mixture of sugar powder with streptomyces biomass that replaces the antibiotic. Timely application of the above remedy ensures proper functioning of the physiological and biochemical processes in bees.
The goal of this invention is reduce the bee treatment period and considerably decrease the antibiotic residue rate in honey and beekeeping products.

ADVANTAGES

  • Reducing bee treatment period from 3 to 2 weeks;
  • Reducing the areas affected by Baccillus larvae (Bac. Larvae) through disease prevention;
  • Obtaining the streptomyces biomass that in addition to antibiotics contains other bioactive substances;
  • Significant reduction of the residue rate in honey and beekeeping products as a result of limited application (one time) and its high impacts.
