How to regenerate used active carbon?

SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVE THE CURRENT SITUATION AT WATER TREATMENT PLANTS

As soon as during the process of waste water treatment the active carbon accumulates various inorganic and organic substances, we propose a new method of active carbon regeneration.
Until now, known methods of active carbon regeneration did not permit to obtain the satisfactory result with regard to removal of accumulated inorganic and organic impurities. We propose a new method which permits to increase the restoration percent of used active carbon sorption capacity, due to the alkaline and thermal treatment. In addition, high temperature and presence of carbon dioxide render the extraordinary effect on carbon activation!
The proposed method is very profitable from the economic point of view as it involves just several simple operations:
- Separation of mechanic impurities;
- Treatment with KOH solution at pH 11-13, during 20-30 hours;
- Washing with demineralized water;
- Drying at the temperature 100-110°C during 3-5 hours;
- Thermal treatment at the temperature 450-600°C during 1-1.5 hours.

ADVANTAGES

  • Proposed technology increases the degree od impurities removal from the pores of used active carbon
  • Assure the increase in regeneration degree of used active carbon up to 60%!
