SUMMARY:

The method of obtaining the antiseptic medicine called „Iodamox” includes changes of starch taken as an aqueous solution through oxidation with hydrogen peroxide and its treatment with iodine solution. The obtained compositions can be used for external usage and as antiseptic solution for the disinfection of tools, packages, technologic equipment, as well as for antiseptic hand treatment.

DESCRIPTION:
To obtain the antiseptic composition, various starches of vegetal origin (from corn, potatoes, other crops) can be used, however, priority lies with the capacity to bind the iodine higher than 7%. The proposed method allows obtaining compositions with iodine molecular concentration from 0,1 to 6,0 g/l, depending on the destination. „Iodamox”, analogically standardized to the well-known medicine of this group „Iodinol”, dilutes easily with water in any proportions, thus obtaining a uniformly colored solution. It is not either explosive or toxic. „Iodamox” has antiseptic actions towards Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Candida albicans at a concentration of 25…40 mg/l; towards Zygosaccharomyces mongolicus, Candida vini, Torulopsis sake, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Penicilium puberulum – at a concentration of 200…400 mg/l; towards Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus polymyxa, Bacillus macerans – at a concentration of 500…600 mg/l.

ADVANTAGES

• Increase the medicine’s chemical stability;
• “Iodamox” production is more advantageous compared to „Iodinol” production technology. Material costs are reduced; raw material cost (excluding transportation) is 1.4 less, and the technologic process is 3 times shorter;
• The raw material, starch, is available in Moldova, unlike polyvinyl alcohol used for the preparation “Iodinol“, which is imported;
• “Iodamox” production does not require sophisticated equipment or tools to produce. Energy costs are relatively moderate, as the production technology envisages only one stage where energy is required at heating the starch solution up to boiling.

Current stage of development - Available for presentation Technical-normative documentation (technical prescription, pharmacopoeia monography) is approved; the trade mark is registered.

Where was applied - The technology has been tested at “Eurofarmaco” JSC. For experimental purposes a total of 1979 phials of 100 ml each of „Iodamox” were produced.
